AR1000 Series: FAQs

Configurations

 

Q. What is an OEM configuration?
A. An OEM configuration is build from a set of standard options.
These are limited to:

Windows® XP Professional or

Q. Can I order any arbitrary set of options?
A. No. Mandatory in a configuration are the hard disk drive, SO-DIMM memory and operating system. All other devices are optional.

Q. Can I order the AR1000 series with the OS installed on CompactFlash?
A. No. Not as an OEM configuration. Refer to the "ODM and IVAR" section of this FAQ for other options. In an OEM configuration the OS is always installed on the hard disk.

Q. Can I order the AR1000 series with my own logo?
A. No. Not as an OEM configuration. Refer to the "ODM and IVAR" section of this FAQ for other options. In an OEM configuration the AR1000 comes with a PFU logo attached.

Q. What ships with an OEM AR1000 series configuration?
A.An OEM AR1000 series ships with the following configuration:

Selected SO-DIMM memory installed.
Selected hard disk drive and OS installed.
Optionally selected IDE CompactFlash storage card installed.
Optionally selected Wi-Fi card manufacturer's drivers and utilities installed and Wi-Fi card physically not installed.
Universal AC adapter with US power cord.
DC power cord clamp
PS/2 keyboard/mouse Y-splitter cable.
User manual (hardcopy). A soft copy may be downloaded from PFU Systems web site.
CE safety conformance declaration (hardcopy).
Quality assurance report (hard copy).
CD with Windows® 2000 and XP device drivers. These may also be downloaded from PFU Systems web site.

Q. What is an ODM or IVAR configuration?
A. An ODM/IVAR configuration allows "soft" customizations to the AR1000 series. These are limited to:

Different capacity rotating hard disk drives and IDE CompactFlash storage cards than available as standard options in an OEM configuration.
Solid state drives instead of rotating ones.
Different Wi-Fi cards and other PC Card type devices than available as standard options in an OEM configuration.
Custom OS installations.
Custom BIOS power-on screens.
Custom BIOS default settings.
Custom OEM logos.

Q. Who does custom OS installations, BIOS power-on screens, BIOS default settings and OEM logos?
A. Custom OS installations, OEM logos or BIOS default settings can either be contracted out to PFU Systems (ProDeS sm division) or any other way the customer chooses to do these. Custom BIOS power-on screens must be contracted to PFU Systems (ProDeS sm division) as this involves access to the BIOS source code.

Q. Are arbitrary choices of hard disks, IDE CompactFlash and PC Card devices allowed?
A. Yes. However, for technical support, warranty and regulatory certification purposes PFU Systems recommends that any arbitrary device choice is validated and qualified by PFU Systems through its ProDeS sm division. Contact your PFU Systems account manager for more details.

Q. What ships with an ODM/IVAR AR2000 series configuration?
A.An ODM/IVAR AR1000 series ships with the following configuration:

400MHz or 650MHz or 933MHz AR1000 series unit with no hard disk or SO-DIMM memory.
Universal AC adapter with US power cord.
DC power cord clamp.
PS/2 keyboard/mouse Y-splitter cable.
User manual (hardcopy). A soft copy can be downloaded from PFU Systems web site.
CE safety conformance declaration (hardcopy).
Quality assurance report (hard copy).
CD with Windows® 2000 and XP device drivers. These can also be downloaded from PFU Systems web site.

Q. How are repairs of an ODM/IVAR configuration handled by PFU Systems?
A. Repairs of an ODM/IVAR configuration are only handled by testing the AR1000 series with PFU-Systems pre-qualified installation options. If the configuration consists of installation options that PFU Systems offers in OEM configurations (see the section on OEM configurations in this FAQ), then the same repair policies apply as for the OEM case. See the "Warranties and Repairs" section of this FAQ.
