PFU Systems, Inc. was founded in 1997 as Cell Computing, Inc., and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PFU Limited of Japan. To more clearly identify PFU Systems with our parent company and its heritage, and to create a consistent worldwide brand, Cell Computing, Inc. was renamed to PFU Systems, Inc. on April 1, 2002.

The company's headquarters is located in San Jose, California and it maintains engineering, manufacturing and sales facilities located in Plymouth, Minnesota. PFU Systems is a member of the PICMG (PCI Industrial Computers Manufacturing Group) Trade Association and the Intel Embedded and Communications Alliance. PFU Systems is one of the leading sponsors and founding member of the PICMG COM Express committee.
